Success Stories - Process automation with direct EDI connection

PROCESS AUTOMATION WITH DIRECT EDI CONNECTION

Definition and process

EDI stands for Electronic Data Interchange, meaning the exchange of business processes/documents between customer and supplier systems without the need  for manual intervention. Communication between different IT systems is enabled by a number of specially developed international standards.

The sequence for a new interface is as follows:

1. Preliminary discussion:
Definition of contact persons, requirements/targets, definition of processes, for example in the event of data and transmission errors

2. Synchronization of master data:
Master data is synchronized for each item in order to optimize missing/incorrect master data.

3. Determination of communication and document type:
Type of commu-nication: AS2, FTP, SFTP, standard formats: EDIFACT, OpenTrans

4. Test phase:
The communication connection is saved and tested. The message types are exchanged in test mode and the system fine-tuned accordingly.

5. Live-operation:
After a successful test phase, the electronic data exchange can go live.

ADVANTAGES AND SOLUTION

Previously, Unimatic GmbH used a service provider as an intermediary for the transfer of documents. This step has now been eliminated, which has made the process faster and lowered costs. Thanks to the now automated ordering process, RIEGLER is able to react directly.

In short, electronic data exchange between companies saves process costs:

  • Automated transfer of receipts
  • No duplication
  • Faster business processes
  • Minimized error rate
  • 24/7 availability
  • Paper documents obsolete
  • Simplified communication
Thanks to RIEGLER’s fast and reliable response, we are able to serve our customers much faster and more predictably than before. We have also been able to minimize stock levels and can view the status of individual consignments at all times.
